Library to exhibit paintings of accomplished performer and artist

CORNWALL, NY – The Cornwall Public Library will have an art opening reception in the community room on Saturday, July 7 from 1:00-3:00 PM for artist, Judi Silvano. Her show entitled Judi Silvano: Paintings of Life and Love will feature works depicting her many travels, the beauty of nature, and musicians and dancers who have inspired her. Some of her subjects include Isadora Duncan and Jazz luminaries McCoy Tyner, Sheila Jordan, John Scofield and Joe Lovano.
Judi Silvano’s colorful history has led her from an early dance career and training as a classical singer in Philadelphia, to becoming an accomplished jazz vocalist, composer and, most recently, a visual artist. Silvano is a member of Goshen Art League, Woodstock Art Association, Northeast Watercolor Society, Middletown Art Group, Washingtonville Artist Cooperative and is a Represented Artist at the Wallkill River School and Gallery. Her paintings have garnered the Mary Evelyn Whitehill Award for one of her Watercolors, First Prize for her Pastel in a juried show at Newburgh’s Mt. St. Mary College and Honorable Mention for one of her Encaustic Oils from the Middletown Art Group.
As a singer, Silvano has toured internationally and recorded with jazz greats Joe Lovano, Jack DeJohnette, Charlie Haden, Bill Frisell, Kenny Werner and Gunther Schuller among others, has released 14 albums of both classic and original songs, has been voted Best Jazz Singer in the Hudson Valley as well as a Top Ten Jazz Vocalist four times in Down Beat International Polls.  Her Chamber Music compositions have been performed on stages in New York City and Europe. As an accomplished improvising vocalist Silvano released a duo album “Listen to This” with guitarist Bruce Arnold in 2016 of Electro-Acoustic soundscapes.
In addition, Silvano’s paintings have been featured as cover art for her own Standards recording “Indigo Moods” (Puerto Vallarta at Sunset, Watercolor), Joe Lovano’s “Quartet Classic: Live at Newport” (Fiery Sky, Watercolor), pianist David Janeway’s “Secret Passages” (Musician’s Dream, Encaustic Oil) and Silvano’s own “Lessons Learned” (Sunset In the Field, Watercolor) of Original Songs and Lyrics being released July 2018 on Unit Records.
She continues to perform as a vocalist and has a passion for sharing her knowledge of song interpretation and vocal improvisation in Concerts and Master Classes around the world in addition to painting an ever-expanding subject material of the world around her.
