Food Bank to host special distribution for federal employees

In response to the federal government shutdown, the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley will host a special distribution for out-of-work federal employees on Thursday, January 24 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Food Bank (195 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY).

The distribution is open to all furloughed federal employees (or those who are working and not being paid) and their families who live anywhere in the six-county region the Food Bank serves: Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster counties.

Participants will be asked to show their federal ID (or a photo of a federal ID if the employee is unable to attend in person). No appointment is necessary.

The Food Bank will provide a three-day supply of non-perishable food items. Participants can also choose from a selection of produce, dairy, meat and other perishable items. Some personal care items and pet food may also be available, based on current inventory.

For more details, please call the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley at (845) 534-5344.

The Food Bank offers several ways for community members to support this and other emergency food efforts:
· To volunteer on Thursday, please email [email protected].
· Please donate non-perishable food items at the Food Bank during weekday business hours (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.).
· To donate funds, please visit www.foodbankofhudsonvalley.org.

About the Food Bank
Working in partnership with the food industry, the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley collects surplus food and distributes it to charitable agencies feeding hungry people in a six-county region of the Lower Hudson Valley (Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster). Last year, the Food Bank provided 16 million pounds of food to more than 124,000 people through 400 member agencies – including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, day care centers, senior programs, rehabilitation programs and programs for the disabled.
