The trees that once hid the 19th-century homes along Old Forge Hill Road between Cornwall and New Windsor have been cut down and photographer Frank Ostrander took photos of the newly-exposed old houses.

The homes were once filled by managers of the paper mill across the street and one of them also served as a chapel.

Thanks, Frank, for the amazing pictures!

(I can't begin to tell you how many times I've craned my neck to look at these while I drove by...you've saved me from an accident, I'm sure!)

There used to be a house on the same side of street as the paper mill; it was located just before the bridge. I think there is a NYS historic marker sign there now. It was torn down about 40(?) years ago. The name "Ellis" comes to mind; but not sure. Does anyone out there remember this house or know the people? They used to attend CCHS.

The house that had been on the river side was lived in by the Ellis family in the 1960s, perhaps into the early '70s. I believe the boys still live in the area. The historic sign marked it as the sight of the original Forge Hill forge, noting that the Revolutionary chain across the Hudson had been forged there.
