ROBERT W. CORBY
April 9, 1933 – May 21, 2018
Cornwall, NY

Robert W. Corby, of Cornwall, NY entered into eternal rest, following a brief illness, on May 21, 2018 at CareOne at New Milford Nursing Home in New Milford, NJ. He was 85 years old.

The son of the late Amandus Corby and Helen (Webberley) Corby, Robert was born on April 9, 1933 in Jersey City, NJ.

Robert was a retired Iron Worker for Iron Workers Local 45 in Jersey City, NJ, where he was a well-respected worker, known for his impeccable work ethic, his fearless nature which allowed him to tackle tasks that were often quite dangerous, and his ability to perform difficult jobs that others could not do.

Robert honorably and proudly served his country as a corporal, of the US Army during the Korean War. He was an expert marksman, and he earned many medals for his service. Among those medals were The Department of the US Army Achievement Medal, The National Defense Medal, and the Cold War Victory Medal. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, The American Legion, and the National Rifle Association. After retiring as an iron worker, Robert worked at West Point Military Academy for five years, where he received an achievement medal for civilian service and an official commendation for exceptional performance of his duties. He was also a member of the Black Rock Fish & Game Club, where he spent many hours target shooting. In addition, he participated in the Virginia Cavalry, Civil War Reenactments. Robert was and a Friend of Bill W.

A family statement reads: “Bob, as he was called by friends and family, was a special soul. He was strong and kind; always willing to help anyone in need, whether they were a friend or not. He was dedicated to service and spent his life serving in many capacities. An independent person, who had endless energy, Bob was always heavily involved in a “project’ of some kind. His most impressive was the home that he designed and built, in Cornwall, NY. He and his wife, Patricia, lived in that home for the rest of their lives. A creator, by nature, he loved to work with leather. Some of the things he liked to make were his own shoes, leather coat, belts, and gun holsters. Bob was a sports fan, who loved car racing and boxing, both of which he dabbled in as a young man. He had a very special relationship with his children, Jennifer, Paula, and Robert, and was a loving and dedicated husband to wife Patricia. No one who met Bob walked away without his mark left upon them. He was loved by all. And shall be greatly missed.”

Robert was predeceased by his loving wife, Patricia Corby in 2016. Robert is survived by his son, Robert C. Corby of Rochester, NY; his beloved step- daughters, Jennifer C. Mavrorasakis and her husband Manny of Garnerville, NY and Paula V. Conroy of Haverstraw, NY; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, his dog Roscoe, and many close friends including Frank Reynolds of Cornwall, NY, Virginia Borghesan, of Cornwall, NY, and Charlie Stickle, formally of Cornwall and currently of Pennsylvania.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29th at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. A Chapel Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30th at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will follow the Service at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mountainville, NY.
