Obituaries: Mary V. Tomko

September 16, 2017

Mary V. Tomko, age 91, of Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY, entered into eternal rest at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence on September 14, 2017, re-uniting with her beloved husband, Frank M. Tomko (1978.) She was also preceded in death by her sister Anna, and brother, Casey. She was born in Meriden, CT on January 28, 1926 to parents Josephine Lubwicz and Dominic Kamsytis. She was raised by the Morin family of Meriden, and the Cella family of Wallingford. She had resided in Wallingford, CT for most of her life.

Mary is survived by her children, Michael, Susan and Richard (Revathi) Tomko and her grandchildren, Michael Tomko and Susan Tomko.

Mary began her career as a telephone operator but mostly enjoyed being a homemaker for her family. Her hobbies were gardening, baking and knitting extreme-striped mittens. Those crazy mittens can be found in households across the country. She was raised on a dairy farm where she developed a great respect for animals, a respect she passed along to her children. Before moving to Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY, she was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Wallingford where cherished her time as a proud bingo-caller and where she also won several church cake baking competitions for her Hawaiian-pineapple-coconut cake. She was an avid fan of the UCONN Women’s Basketball Teams, the Boston Red Sox and all activities in which her children participated.

The family sincerely appreciates the kind friends and neighbors who provided Mary so many joyful moments over the past several years. We also thank the caregivers and healthcare professionals who treated Mary with dignity and respect.

All services are private. To honor Mary's life, please do something nice for somebody else today.
